Take a step away, gather yourself think about the issues, solve the problem, and come back to it.
I will be the first or 100th person to tell you that building a company is hard, really hard. It is stressful. Anyone will tell you that I am a very positive person but lately it has been tough and I have grown more over the last 3 weeks as a CEO than I have in 3 years! With the ups and downs of creating a company, I am absolutely convinced that you must rely on your inner compass and trust yourself to look at your own perspective when trying to solve the problem. While you can and should lean on your tribe of supporters and get their perspective, you must have the ability to take a step away, gather yourself think about the issues, solve the problem, and come back to it. The taking the time out and gathering this perspective is the hard part but it must be done to further your growth. This is easier said than done and it takes practice to have perspective in a challenging moment but once you learn this, you will never be the same CEO again. Trust me.
How you deal with things and manage the ups and downs, whether its personal life, work life, any of that, it makes or breaks you.
There is an art to handling situations – those both good and bad. It is about character and remaining steady in trying situations. The easy times are easy. Anyone can smile during an easy time. It is how you handle yourself in the tough situations that really shows who you are. Your perspective is created from your experiences and understand that everything you do is connected. When bringing a new product and concept to the market, there are challenges, but strong CEO’s have this inner sense that they are heading in the right direction even in the toughest of times.
The ability to review and even challenge your own perspective, sit with it, and come back stronger is key.
When facing difficult situations, you have to take a step back and recognize how your actions will determine the future of yourself, your team, and company. With the experience, you gain from facing and dealing with challenging situations in the past, you will learn to trust yourself more that you are moving forward in the right direction. Challenges you have faced in all aspects of life create your ability to make good decisions in the future.
Seek out perspective within yourself. Ask questions not only to your team, your tribe but most importantly yourself.
